The application of gas
chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) to analytical forensic testing
has become the “benchmark” for proof positive regarding identification of
an organic substance such as a drug. This usually is because if only one
test is to be done, GC/MS provides the most information on which to base an
identification. GC/MS also has the advantage of high sensitivity so it can
detect very low concentrations. The list of drugs below are most frequently
determined by GC/MS. Other organic substances including drugs can be
identified and quantified by GC/MS. Should the need arise, to identify
solvents, volatiles, pesticides, and various toxic agents relating to a
particular forensic situation, AB-C offers general GC/MS analyses. Open
ended investigations by GC/MS are billed at $75 per hour, or a maximum of
$500 per identification. Ruling out the presence or absence of a particular
known substance can generally be accomplished in 2 hours. We would suggest
your consulting with us prior to submitting a general unknown analytical
problem. In some cases, GC/MS may not be a suitable approach to
identification such as in the case of metallic salts and other inorganic
substances. We will give cost estimates for testing not specified in our fee
